HMS Mobile App -- Catch Reporting
This mobile app provides HMS fishermen an easy tool to record their trips and report their catch of bluefin tuna, blue marlin, white marlin, roundscale spearfish, sailfish, and swordfish. This app allows fishermen to record their landings and releases of HMS where-ever they may be, either during the fishing trip itself or from the comfort of their own home. The information is stored in the device and fishermen can submit the report to HMS once an Internet connection is available.
All bluefin tuna landings and dead discards, and swordfish and billfish (white and blue marlin, sailfish, and roundscale spearfish) landings must be reported to NOAA Fisheries within 24 hours of the vessel returning from the trip.
This applies to those vessel that have the following permits:
- HMS Angling Permit
- HMS Charter/Headboat Permit
- Atlantic Tunas General Permit
- Atlantic Tunas Harpoon Permit
- Combination Swordfish/Tuna Permits
Swordfish and billfishes landed in registered HMS tournaments must be reported by the tournament operator. Check the list of registered HMS tournaments to be sure that the tournament you are participating in is registered with NOAA Fisheries.
Maryland and North Carolina vessel owners should report their recreational bluefin tuna, blue marlin, white marlin, roundscale spearfish, sailfish and swordfish landings at state-operated reporting stations and not through this system.
